EVGA launches e-peen exploding Classified SR-2 motherboard

The board, based on Intel's 5520 chipset, supports either one or two Intel Xeon processors equipped with a dual QPI interconnect. Put two processors of the hyper-threaded, hexa-core variety together and you're looking at a total of 24 threads.

What you'd do with all 24 is anyone's guess, but EVGA reckons the board is "the ultimate" solution for any PC enthusiast. Said user is also likely to enjoy the 12 DIMM slots on offer, supporting up to 48GB of DDR3 memory at speeds of 1,333MHz, and there's also support for ECC modules, too.

There's a massive array of seven PCIe x16 slots - with two NVIDIA NF200 chips helping provide bandwidth - and the board supports four-way GPU configurations from either NVIDIA SLI or AMD CrossFire. Other features include dual Gigabit Ethernet, eight-channel audio, USB 3.0, and SATA 6Gbps.

Cramming all that tech onto a single board isn't easy, though, and EVGA has had to invent a whole new form factor. It's called HPTX, and it means the board measures a significant 345.4mm x 381mm. Don't expect to fit this one in your existing chassis, at least not without a modification or two.

There's no mention of availability as yet, but EVGA has the board listed at a cost of $599.99 (roughly £400).

I've always like EVGa boards never owned one but they look nice and this thing is insane!
