WiFi ADSL assistance.

So here is what i got, my home in brazil is using this router. Linksys WAG54G2 Wireless-G Router Gateway ADSL2+ Modem.

Issue is i get horrible dead spots, around the house and im looking to increase it cheaply.
I heard of the cantenna, but not sure how well that would work, i need at least 2 because my aunt and her neighboor use my wireless connection.

What would you do to spread out the signal better, FYI the signal needs to be able to pass thru concrete walls.

I'm thinking one of these what do you think?
Hawking Technologies

Or

Two of these ?

Apple AirPort Express Base Station with 802.11n and AirTunes - Wireless access point

I've channel my wireless channel, that hasn't helped to much and someone told me about a cantenna not sure how much that would help me.

looking for quick and simple.

Dead spots have a lot to do with interference rather than with distance.

Range extenders (access points) might help carrying the signal a bit further, but you might want to look into using some stronger antennas along with them.

Cantenna is good in long distance. We tried it once extending the router antenna with cable over the balcony to give a neighbour wireless access over 100m away.

cheers ...

In a sense of keeping it cheap, can i get away with just a cantenna? Or do i gotta stretch the money with both the extender and cantenna?

I don't know about your living area and neighborhood, so I recommend going with the cheap (and workable) route first with the cantenna. Search the net, there are guides to build a cantenna with wide coverage area besides long distance.

cheers ...

The easy part about living here is, not many ppl have wireless only techies but the killer part is that ADSL, only reaches speeds of 4mb max.

Right now i got a separate 2mb connection, speed varies max i got it was to 1.35mb reaching the router sad

So sounds like a play hopefully with the router and a couple of cantenna's we can get this dead zone dropped.

I agree with such a limited connection speed, cantenna all the way.

cheers ...

Linksys WAG54G2 Wireless-G Router Gateway ADSL2+ Modem I bought this router, but it doesn't have antenna's, cantenna would be useless with it.

Also laptop has internal nic card not a pcmi card, so can't hook cantenna to that should i stick to extenders than, seeing they require no hookups.

We don't have much choice here do we? Access point and repeater are the way to go then.

cheers ...

Seeing that you already have a Linksys router, I recommend that you look into their repeaters as well. Also I believe that some Linksys router itself can be be configured to be used as a repeater as well. Review the manual and see.

cheers ...
